nowdays, the DVB-T2 decoders (or else receivers) are a nice solution to have also a USB media player for 20-30e.

My experience with Edision.PICCO T265+ is very good, the only down side you cannot customize the size of subtitles. Supports container subtitles (aka mkv) or separate as .srt and most important has H264 & H265 codecs, super fast reading, nice file browser..

The solution for proper subtitles is to generate VobSub (image) subtitles by your existing .srt.. Here is how :

Using Subtitle Edit application
  • File > Open the .srt
  • Export > Vobsub
